Brief Introduction
The major of Materials Science and Engineering comes from the former major of “Radio Physics and Materials" which was established in 1960, it is one of the earliest undergraduate majors focusing on teaching and research of electronic materials and components offered in China. In 1998, the major name was changed to "Materials Science and Engineering" as required by the Ministry of Education. After decades of development, a number of international-level experimental platforms for software and hardware have been built, and a team of teachers with reasonable knowledge structure, unity, cooperation and creativity has been formed. At present, there are 21 full-time teachers, all with doctorates, including 5 professors, accounting for 23.8% of the total, and 15 associate professors, accounting for 71.4% of the total. Taking advantages of electronic and information disciplines, the major of Materials Science and Engineering in the University focuses on the electronic information materials (including nanomaterials) and devices urgently needed for the national economy and national defense development, and training high-level talents with solid theoretical foundation and innovative quality in the growth and synthesis of electronic information materials, processing and manufacturing of optoelectronic devices, performance testing and application of electronic information materials and devices, etc., relying on the provincial experimental teaching centers of materials science and engineering.
Training Objectives
By implementing the Party's educational policy and adhering to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, this major focuses on the training of backbones and leaders with international perspective in the industry, which will have theoretical knowledge with solid natural science foundation and engineering foundation, to master basic theories and professional knowledge of materials science and to engineer and basic skills of analyzing and dealing with complex engineering problems, and to be familiar with the development needs and cutting-edge technologies in this field, with patriotic enterprising, innovative thinking, profound foundation, wide scope, professional knowledge and engineering proficiency. The trained graduates are able to engage in production, design, research, development, teaching and management in this discipline and related fields.
Career Development after Graduation
The graduates are welcomed and praised by employers for their solid basic theory, professional knowledge and strong practical ability, thus having strong competitiveness in the job market. In recent years, around 100% of the graduates can be employed. They are employed in China Academy of Engineering Physics, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Samsung (China) Semiconductor Co., Ltd., Xiaomi Technology Co., Ltd., China Merchants Bank, etc. Every year, about 50% of the graduates continue their studies, and more than ten of them are recommended for admission to the top 985 Universities in China represented by Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc.
Major Courses: Solid-state Physics, Semiconductor Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Physical Chemistry, Advanced Analysis Methods for Materials, Fundamentals of Materials Science, Fundamentals of Materials Engineering, Solid-state Electronic Devices, Nanomaterials and Nanostructures, Fundamentals of Computational Materials Science, Nanoelectronics, etc.
